"All of us must eventually do
what the matador does: go out
and face not only the bull, but
the crowd. It does the matador
little good, provides him little
satisfaction to make beautiful
passes alone in a moonlit pasture."
-Chuck Jones
In this quote, Jones is referring to the satisfaction someone gets when they are performing in front of a crowd. Since people depend and act on the opinions of others, performers need to have a crowd to show off their accomplishments and get feedback from the crowd in order to gain self-confidence. Also, if a performer were to perform by himself without a crowd, he/she would not get paid which would make his/her efforts pointless.
